A Residence in Tokyo
For this Japanese residence, Lithos was entrusted with shaping the tactile and atmospheric identity of the home through carefully curated stonework. The brief called for quiet luxury, natural materials, and the timeless balance of Japanese minimalism. From the raw-edge kitchen island to the polished stair elements and serene bathroom slabs, stone became the central material expression of the project. The result is a home defined not by decoration but by craftsmanship, restraint, and the emotional warmth of natural materials.
Set in a dense but quiet Japanese neighborhood, the residence is an exercise in refined simplicity. Lithos supplied and fabricated stone for the kitchen, entryway, stair treads, bathroom surfaces, and a series of custom interior details.
Each stone piece supports the architectural mood: warm, subtle, atmospheric, and deeply rooted in material honesty.
A Home Built on Texture, Shadow, and Craft
The home’s interior uses ambient lighting to reveal texture rather than flatten it. Stone surfaces glow under soft, indirect lighting, emphasizing natural grain and depth.
Concrete walls, warm timber cabinetry, and stone counters create an interplay between rawness and refinement. The result is a space that feels lived in, grounded, and emotionally calm.
Warm Welcome in Stone and Timber
The entryway transitions from smooth stone flooring to warm timber platforms, creating a traditional yet modern threshold.
The stone step is fabricated with a subtle honed finish and integrated LED wash lighting to create a floating, weightless effect. This sets the tone for the home: quiet, precise, inviting.
Raw-Edge Stone Island as a Centerpiece
The kitchen revolves around a raw-edge stone island, fabricated intentionally to preserve the stone’s natural texture.
Its surface, illuminated by soft overhead lighting, becomes the heart of the home—used for cooking, sharing, reading, and conversation. The surrounding cabinetry in Japanese cedar contrasts gently with the cool stone, creating a beautifully warm balance.
Polished Precision
Each riser and tread reflects light softly, adding depth and elegance to what could otherwise be a simple circulation element. The combination of polished stone and timber warmth makes the stairs feel quietly luxurious.
Minimal, Serene, Perfectly Detailed
Large-format white stone slabs bring a sense of hotel-like calm to the bathroom.
The shower walls and custom sink block are crafted from seamless pieces to minimize joints and visual noise.
With warm wood accents and soft, controlled lighting, the bathroom becomes an oasis of simplicity and purity—an essential part of Japanese domestic culture.
Craftsmanship as Atmosphere
More than simply fabricating stone surfaces, Lithos worked closely with the design team to ensure every piece supported the atmosphere of the home.
Every decision was guided by restraint and respect for natural materials. Lithos helped create a home that feels lived in, slow, and deeply human.
Lithos treated our home like a craft object. Every stone surface feels intentional, warm, and beautifully made. Their precision and respect for material transformed the space into something truly personal. We could not have imagined a better result.
